Raspberry PI 3 + Cellv1.0 - Blue LED but no SMS

Postby ToMAtoRaiN » Thu Apr 07, 2016 7:04 am

Hello everybody.
I just bought a CELLv1.0 with Raspberry PI B+ Shield v1.
I'm using raspbian Jessie updated to last version on my Raspberry Pi 3.
I'm following this instructions: http://www.sparqee.com/portfolio/sparqee-shieldrb/

I can't do the "Full initial installation", since i don't have any inittab to replace in my /etc/ folder, and if I replace cmdline.txt it won't boot.
All other steps are ok, but if I try any test command, everything works untill I get the blue led on, but then I can't do anything, it just stops on INFO: CMD: FULL.

Please see here below where it stops.
Any advice?
Thanks in advance!
Alessandro

The sample installation is with NOOBS, other OSes function differently. Check out the changes in the inittab and command.txt to check what you need for the OS you're using. Other OSes will have different requirements for the inittab (which tells NOOBS not to take the default serial port for the PI but rather leave it open for the CELLv1.0) and command.txt which tells the OS which root to use...

dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=tty1 root=/dev/mmcblk0p6 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline rootwait

For Raspbian change root to "mmcblk0p2" I believe it should be the following. Let me know if it doesn't work:

dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=tty1 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 elevator=deadline rootwait

Hello donjohnii, and thanks for the fast reply.
I figured out that the problem with cmdline.txt was the root, I've updated with the second line you posted but it still doesn't work, it stops at the same point.
About the inittab, I don't have it on Raspbian Jessie because they removed it, along with all "sysvinit".
I tryed to stop the serial getty service, but no improvement so far.

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl stop serial-getty@ttyAMA0.service

Anything else i can try?

I'm not familiar with their new inittab offhand, but the AMA0 is what would be killing it - you need to comment out or get rid of their default behavior for that. That's the only thing our inittab file did.

No luck.
I tried with a Rasberry Pi 2 with the same OS and I managed to send an SMS with the same steps I used on the RasPi3. With the Rasberry Pi 3 I can't get this to work...
I'll try to reinstall the RasPi3 with Noobs, I'll update if I can get this working.

Hi there,

I recently bought the same configuration and I'm facing the same problem. Did you find how to get it to work?

Forum updated and I got unsubscribed to the post.

The newest guide should solve your issues. RasPi3 changed some things to make S0 very unreliable as it lost the HW clock. Switching back to AMA0 solves that issue.

Blue means you're on the network, so you should be able to get either Data AND/OR SMS, depending on your SIM card. Does your SIM card support M2M applications? Meaning, did you get a prepaid or just try your normal one?

If you have internet, a service like Tropo would work for you. Direct SMSes, just got to make sure your SIM supports it.

If so, is it actually sending and just not being received or what... what's the response?

I have the same issue: RPi II with Jessie, blue light but no sms sending possible.

It hangs on the at_cmgf() command of the SparqEE module, where it prints:

Code: Select all

INFO:       CMD: Full

and then goes into an endless loop.

Has anyone a solution to this?
